Discovery Flights
Thinking about becoming a pilot? Want to check an item off of your bucket list? Always dreamed of seeing Montgomery County from the sky? Then, come and take a Discovery Flight with WIFA.
Discovery Flights offer an introduction into what it’s like to fly a plane. At Washington International Flight Academy (WIFA), we pair you with an FAA-certified flight instructor for 30 minutes of ground instruction, followed by 30 minutes of flight time, where you get to take control of the aircraft.
Here’s what you should know before taking to the sky:

Passengers may accompany you on your flight for a $30 passenger fee.

In some cases, weather or maintenance issues may prevent your flight from happening as scheduled. Should this occur, WIFA staff will contact you as soon as possible to reschedule your flight. No additional fees will apply for rescheduling.

If you’re unable to keep your Discovery Flight appointment, please give WIFA at least 24-hours advance notice, so that we may free up our pilot and aircraft. Please be sure to have confirmation that we received your message. No shows and late cancellations will result in a $50 rebooking fee.

Note that we do not allow same-day bookings. Weekends tend to fill up several weeks in advance.

If you decide to continue learning to fly, you may use credit from the ground instruction towards your private pilot license.
Discovery Flights may be purchased directly from WIFA for $99 or through Groupon for a discounted rate.
If purchasing through Groupon, please have your voucher handy prior to calling to schedule as we will ask for your Voucher Code when booking your flight.
